Cucurbita moschata Violina

Cucurbita moschata Violina

Old, very pretty, Italian variety.

Violina is rightly considered a beauty among butternuts. It is an old country variety from the south of Italy.

The fruits are peanut-shaped, ribbed and weigh around 2-4 kg.

Violina is a strong climber and needs warm locations and lots of sun to ripen. A lover’s variety.

Ripening time: 120-130 days.

Violina is trailing  strongly.

Cucurbita moschata require a lot of heat and is therefore better to be pre-cultivated. Varieties with a ripening time of up to 110 days also thrive in cold regions.

Optimum germination at 24-30o C. When sowing stick the pointed side of the seed down or lay them flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place in a brighter and cooler place.

For Violina we recommend 2-3 square meters per plant.

Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, lice, powdery mildew, virus.
