Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) OSU Blue BIO

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) OSU Blue BIO

OSU Blue was one of the first black-purple tomato breeds that was ready for the market. It is named after the breeder, Oregon State University.

OSU Blue bears black-purple, shiny fruits weighing around 100 grams. The reason for the violet color is the high anthocyanin content of the fruits. These have a health-promoting effect.

However, OSU Blue is only ready to harvest when the fruit turns red. It then has a particularly beautiful color effect, reddish below and bluish above.

Sow at 20-25° C from February to the end of March, then pre-cultivate from February to April, plant outdoors after the last frost. The harvest takes place from the end of July to September.

Tomatoes love sunny and wind-protected locations. The soil should be loose, humus-rich and nutrient-rich.

Tomato plants have high water needs. Never water the plants with tap-cold water. The water should at least be at room temperature. Always ensure that the leaves remain dry so that tomato rot has less chance.
