Phaseolus vulgaris (Asparagus bean) Metro Black

Phaseolus vulgaris (Asparagus bean) Metro Black

Rarity in need of warmth with long sleeves.

‘Asparagus’ beans are very eye-catching with their green pods, which are up to 60 cm long. They should only be cultivated in really warm locations. If the conditions are right, the young pods, which taste sweeter than runner beans, can be prepared in the same way. They can also be frozen.

Asparagus beans come from Asia, grow up to 100 cm long and are very popular. Metro Black has black beans. The plants are very vigorous and require climbing support.

With pre-culture indoors directly in small pots from the beginning of April at 20-25 ° C or as direct sowing in warm locations from mid-May to mid-June as row sowing similar to pole beans. Harvest period: From end of July to October.

Fertilization generally not required. Avoid waterlogging and damp tillage. Later piling up is recommended.
