Lupinus polyphyllus Russell The Chatelaine
Lupinus polyphyllus Russell The Chatelaine
Lupinus polyphyllus ‘Russell’, commonly known as Russell hybrid lupine, is a striking perennial that is renowned for its tall, colorful flower spikes and lush foliage.
The Russell hybrids were selectively bred by George Russell in the early 20th century, resulting in a wide array of vibrant colors and improved plant vigor.
As members of the pea family, lupines have the ability to fix nitrogen in the soil, improving soil fertility and making them beneficial for nearby plants. Lupinus polyphyllus ‘Russell’ is relatively easy to care for, though they can benefit from deadheading (removal of spent flower spikes) to encourage a second flush of blooms.
