In the period May and June, Polemonium caeruleum blooms with funnel-shaped lavender blue flowers with bright yellow stamens.

The leaves are lance-shaped and stand in pairs next to each other like steps of a ladder, hence the name Jacob’s or heavenly ladder. 

The Jacob’s ladder is suitable for the border or rock garden, but does like moist sandy soil, preferably in a sunny to semi-shaded spot. Polemonium caeruleum is very hardy and semi-evergreen.
