Nicandra physaloides

Nicandra physaloides

Vigorous border plant with blue flowers followed by apple-shaped seed pods, used in dried flower arrangements.

The bell-shaped flowers are light blue to purple, white at the base and 3-4 cm in size. After flowering in the period from June to September, just like the real lantern plant, a lantern of sepals containing a fruit is formed: a 15 mm large brown berry. The individual flowers usually only bloom for a single day, but the plant blooms inexhaustibly. The leaves are large, up to 30 cm long, ovate to oblong, and wavy-toothed. The seed pods are beautiful but each berry contains hundreds of seeds that last up to 10 years in the soil. The plant can therefore spread very rapidly.

Height: 100 cm.
