Aquilegia alpina

Aquilegia alpina

Large blue flowers, short spurred.

Aquilegia alpina, or alpine columbine, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the European Alps and other mountainous regions.

It thrives in well-drained, rocky soils.

This species is known for its striking, nodding flowers, which are deep blue. Each flower has short spurred petals that store nectar, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The delicate, fern-like foliage adds to its ornamental appeal.

Aquilegia alpina blooms in late spring to early summer and prefers partial shade to full sun. It is a popular choice for rock gardens, alpine gardens, and wildflower meadows due to its resilience and beauty.
