Coix lacryma-jobi
Erect, leafy grass with sprays of drooping pearly-white seeds.
Job’s tears is a tropical grass species from Southeast Asia that can grow as an annual plant in our garden.
In Asia, this species serves as a food crop, because the seeds can be used as grain for baking bread, for example. A tea can also be made from ground Job’s tears and liqueur made. In Chinese medicine, Job’s tears have several uses. In Asia and South America, necklaces are made from the beautiful, gray, pearly seeds.
The seeds can be harvested around September, after they turn from green to black and eventually gray in the summer.
Height: 50 cm.
Supplied as raw (normal) seed in grams.
