Cucumis melo (Melon) Noir de Carmes
Cucumis melo (Melon) Noir de Carmes
Handy, historical rarity from France.
A historical rarity, known as a variety since 1787. The name has a reference to the Carmelite monks who cultivated this variety.
Conspicuously ribbed, dark green and weighs around 1 to 1.5 kg.
When ripe, the bark turns orange-brown with green spots. This makes it easy to determine ripeness, which is not easy with some melon varieties.
Muskmelons have a strong scent when they are ripe.
Tasty, strongly fragrant pulp.
Not quite so early, but still easy to cultivate in Central Europe. Like all melons, it needs a warm location and some care.
Melons grow moderately and require around 1 square meter per plant.
Melons enjoy a mulching film.
In a nice and warm summer, the pulp contains more sugar than in a cold summer.
The seeds are sown indoors from the beginning of April at 24-28 ° C directly with 1-2 seeds in the small pot (do not keep the pots too moist) or from mid-May outdoors in a warm location. The harvest takes place in warm locations from mid-July.
Possible pests: lice, mice, powdery mildew.
Supplied as raw (normal) seed.
