Cucurbita moschata Shishigatani

Cucurbita moschata Shishigatani

A very special variety, already over 100 years old.

This variety from Japan is very interesting. Shishigatani is a cross between a Black Futsu type and a butternut.

The fruits weigh approx. 1-1.5 kg, are very attractive and turn from green to bright dark orange. They last quite well.

Ripening time: 110 days.

Moderate trailing behavior.

Cucurbita moschata require a lot of heat and is therefore better to be pre-cultivated. Varieties with a ripening time of up to 110 days also thrive in cold regions.

Optimum germination at 24-30o C. When sowing stick the pointed side of the seed down or lay them flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place in a brighter and cooler place.

The planting distance for pumpkins depends on the trailing behavior.

Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, lice, powdery mildew, virus.

Supplied as raw (normal) seed.
