Cucurbita moschata Valencia

Cucurbita moschata Valencia

A very beautiful, evenly sized butternut of the dark type, which contains significantly more carotene pulp than the light types.

Valencia produces well-shaped fruits weighing around 0.7 to 1 kg. The dark butternut types are about 15 days later than the light ones and should always be pre-cultivated and only planted in warm places.

Valencia has a better shelf life than Beja or Sonca.

Ripening time: 95-100 days.

Valencia vines moderately.

Cucurbita moschata require a lot of heat and is therefore better to be pre-cultivated. Varieties with a ripening time of up to 110 days also thrive in cold regions.

Optimum germination at 24-30o C. When sowing stick the pointed side of the seed down or lay them flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place in a brighter and cooler place.

For Valencia we recommend 1-2 square meters per plant.

Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, lice, powdery mildew, virus.
