Cucurbita pepo Tuffy
Popular variety with good taste.
Tuffy is an older, monovarietal variety that continues to be very popular alongside the many hybrid varieties because of its exceptional taste.
It forms dark green, beautifully shaped acorn pumpkins on short tendrils that are popular for cooking and also stuffed. The fruit weight is around 900 grams.
In the USA, acorns are also cooked in half in the oven and served with syrup. Tuffy has its best flavor about 2 weeks after harvest.
Ripening time: 90 days.
Tuffy forms short tendrils.
C. pepo grows well on warm, well-drained soils, pre-cultivation and planting with sowing from the end of April or direct sowing from the beginning of May.
Optimum germination at 24-30o C. When sowing stick the pointed side of the seed down or lay them flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place in a brighter and cooler place.
For Tuffy we recommend 1-2 square meters per plant.
Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, lice, powdery mildew, virus.
Supplied as raw (normal) seed.
