Passiflora lingularis

Passiflora lingularis

Passiflora lingularis, commonly known as sweet granadilla or grenadia, is a vine species of passion flower, native to the southern region of southern America.

The fast-growing climbing plant is woody at the base and has hairless, tubular, up to 5 m long stems. The unbranched, spiral-shaped tendrils arise from the leaf axils.

The 9 cm wide flowers are white and purple or violet. The fruits ripen from green through yellow to orange with white dots. Poor shelf life. The fruits are spherical to oval and 6-10 × 4-7 cm in size.

The plant can withstand short periods of light frost, but tolerates dry, hot weather poorly.

Height: 300 cm (120″).
