Upright grass has fine, needlelike green foliage, with silky green, overhanging flowers in July that mature to golden blonde.

The whole thing is reminiscent of a ponytail. The leaves are gray-green with a purple touch.

The flowers bloom from summer to autumn.

This plant prefers full sun to partial shade.
