Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Canestrino di Lucca

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Canestrino di Lucca

Tomato specialty from Tuscany.

A specialty of Tuscany is this pear-shaped tomato with clear ribs and green shoulders.

The fruits have a very good taste with a little acid and a lot of sweetness.

Grown in Tuscany for over 100 years, this variety probably originally comes from Mexico.

The fruits are particularly suitable for salads, but also for sauces.

It is harvested when the shoulders are still green and grows indeterminately.

Sow at 20-25° C from February to the end of March, then pre-cultivate from February to April, plant outdoors after the last frost. The harvest takes place from the end of July to September.

Tomatoes love sunny and wind-protected locations. The soil should be loose, humus-rich and nutrient-rich.

Tomato plants have high water needs. Never water the plants with tap-cold water. The water should at least be at room temperature. Always ensure that the leaves remain dry so that tomato rot has less chance.
